Stanislav Vdovin
Stanislav Vdovin is a musician, sound designer, and founder of the Occasion record label (on January 1, 2010), which is oriented to release organic forms of contemporary music. Such qualities as intensity, lyricism, subtle rhythmics, and strong production can portray his works.
Stanislav Vdovin was born (1985) in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where he studied classic and jazz piano. In late 90s — early 2000s Stanislav found himself attending to electronic dance music, translated in weekly radio programs, and that served as an impulse to creating own tracks under the name Unit 21.
Techno and house production of Unit 21 had been releasing on small labels outside of Russia, including vinyl ones and netlabels (Monotonik, Thinner, Sutemos). Thus, in a period of 2003 — 2006 Stanislav Vdovin enjoyed working side-by-side with such artists as Sleepy Town Manufacture, Lackluster, Neurotron, and others. Capturing the best from IDM and ambient genres, music of Unit 21 hardly overstepped the line of techno in structure and narration.
A distinct period in creative work of the musician was determined by conception of micro sampling of soviet vinyl records, which is more or less reflected in four long playing albums: November (Lagunamuch Records), December24 / LP (Rat Hole / 3rd Wave Music), and also Kite and No Traces (38.8, Infraction) in collaboration with Alexander Ananyev (Sleepy Town Manufacture).
The album Made Of Cloth And Feather, released under the name Stanislav Vdovin on his own label, has ended this period off, and became the base for symbiosis of digital sound synthesis/processing, acoustic and analog instruments, and, of course, the heart and the mind. Creative focus of the musician has gradually shifted towards melody and diverse, rich in nuances arrangements.
Working both in home studio and live Stanislav Vdovin continues to collaborate with Alexander Ananyev as Sleepy Town Manufacture & Unit 21, and with academic composer Olga Shaydullina on projects with prepared acoustic piano and electronics.
